If someone is early in their trans identity journey, what would you like to share with them?
Change is a natural force in the world and change can be scary. A caterpillar becomes a butterfly. A seed could be a flower, a crop, a tree. To be trans is to accept and embrace that change and to make it your own.
What would you like to see the world change to make trans people more free?
America claims to be all about freedom, and trans people just want the freedom to be themselves. I think trans people represent a freedom from gender roles that makes others question “Am I as free as I think am?”
How can people be better trans allies?
One of the best things people can do for trans rights is to realize the intersectionality of all our causes. Trans rights are directly linked to the fight for bodily autonomy, the dismantling of systemic racism, and so much more. Trans women of color have been at the forefront of so much social change, beyond LGBTQ rights. Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Ceyenne Doroshow, Cecilia Gentili - these should be household names.
